How We Protect and Manage Your Information

From the moment you create an account to every PhonePe deposit you make, we apply consistent data-handling standards across our systems.

Encrypted Data Storage

All personal data — including name, contact details and payment references tied to UPI or Paytm flows — is stored using encryption at rest. We do not store raw card or bank credentials; only tokenised or masked references relevant to reconciliation are retained in our systems.

Cookie Consent Controls

We use three categories of cookies: strictly necessary, functional and analytics. On your first visit, a consent banner lets you accept all categories or configure your preferences individually. You can revisit and update those preferences at any time from the Cookie Settings link in our site footer.

Account Security Measures

Login sessions are protected with industry-standard token expiry. If we detect an unusual sign-in pattern on your account — such as a new device or location — we will send a verification prompt to your registered mobile number or email before granting access.

Retention Periods

We keep active account data for as long as your account remains open. After account closure, we retain certain records for the period required by applicable financial and legal obligations in your jurisdiction, then delete or anonymise them. You can request a summary of your retention schedule by contacting our privacy team.

Third-Party Data Sharing

We share personal data only with the processors necessary to run the platform — payment gateways that handle UPI, Paytm and PhonePe transactions, identity-verification services where required by law, and hosting infrastructure. We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers under any circumstances.

Your Right to Request Changes

You have the right to access a copy of your data, correct inaccuracies, request deletion where no legal obligation requires us to retain it, and ask for your data in a portable format. Submit any of these requests through Live Chat, email or your in-account Help Centre ticket system.

The questions below cover the data topics we hear about most — from what we collect when you deposit via UPI to how long we keep your chat history with our support team. If your question is not answered here, raise it through the in-account Help Centre and our privacy team will respond within two working days.

We collect your name, email address, mobile number, date of birth and the country you are accessing from. If you make a deposit via UPI, Paytm or PhonePe, we also record the transaction reference and masked payment identifier needed to reconcile the transfer to your wallet.

We share payment references only with the payment gateway that processed your transaction, and only for the purpose of confirming or reversing that specific transfer. We do not share your UPI VPA, Paytm mobile number or PhonePe linked details with advertisers, data brokers or unrelated third parties.

Once your account is closed, we retain records for the period required by the financial and legal obligations applicable in your jurisdiction. After that period ends, your personally identifiable data is deleted or anonymised. Contact our privacy team for a specific retention timeline relevant to your account.

Yes. You can submit a Subject Access Request through the in-account Help Centre, via Live Chat or by emailing our privacy team. We will compile and deliver a structured copy of your data within 30 days of receiving a valid request from your registered account identity.

We will delete your data unless we are required by law to retain specific records — for example, transaction logs needed for financial audit purposes.
